About Turf

Good preparation is essential for a healthy lawn. Remove old grass, weeds, rubble and large stones before cultivating the soil. The ground should be level, firm and free draining, with suitable screened topsoil added where the existing soil is shallow or poor. Lightly rake the finished surface immediately before laying. Turf should be installed promptly after arrival because it is a fresh, living product that can deteriorate if left rolled up, particularly during warm weather.

Lay the first row along a straight edge and position adjoining rolls closely without stretching them. Stagger joints in a brickwork pattern, avoid narrow strips at exposed edges and use boards to spread weight while working. Once installed, water the turf thoroughly so moisture reaches the soil beneath. Continue watering as weather conditions require until the roots have established. Avoid heavy use during this period and delay the first cut until the turf is securely rooted; use a high mower setting initially.

Measure the lawn’s length and width in metres, divide irregular areas into simple shapes and add the results together. A small allowance can help cover trimming and measurement variation. Delivery orders require a minimum of ten rolls, while collection can be arranged for smaller quantities. Turf requires a lead time for collection and is not included in the same-day Click & Collect promise offered on certain stocked products.

Coordinate preparation and labour around the selected date so laying can begin without delay. In hot or dry conditions, have watering equipment ready before the turf arrives. During very wet weather, avoid working saturated soil because footprints and compaction can damage the prepared surface. Seasonal conditions affect watering and establishment, so monitor the lawn rather than following a fixed timetable.

Available fulfilment dates are shown during checkout and depend on order time, stock and delivery area. Make sure access and ground preparation are ready before the turf arrives.
